Specifically, 72% of Unifor union members voted in favor of the recently announced agreement. The new contract includes a 15.75% wage increase, a new payment structure for owner-operator drivers, increased pension benefits, and other improvements. The agreement will be in effect until 1/7/2029.
Unifor National President Lana Payne stated, "I am proud of our national bargaining committee members who fought hard to win the respect they deserve,".
The strike began on 8/6 after more than 2,100 employees, represented by Unifor, reacted to the company issuing a lockout notice. Initially, DHL attempted to maintain operations in Canada. However, on 20/6, with new legislation prohibiting the use of replacement workers during lockouts and strikes, the company was forced to suspend all delivery operations.
With the restoration of service on 30/6, DHL Express stated it will prioritize processing shipments delayed during the strike. Affected customers can expect to receive their packages on the same day.
Furthermore, claims related to service disruptions will be handled according to DHL Express's standard procedures. Customers can submit claims through the company's website.
