Thep Nha Be Joint Stock Company, a subsidiary of Vietnam Steel Corporation (VNSTEEL), commenced a project to add a steel billet production phase at Nhon Trach II - Nhon Phu Industrial Park in Dong Nai on 6/8. The project, with a total investment of 450 billion VND, is expected to be completed in Q4/2027. Southern Power Corporation (EVNSPC) has proactively developed the necessary power infrastructure for this project, enhancing the reliability of electricity supply for the entire Nhon Trach II - Nhon Phu Industrial Park in the coming years.

The project encompasses a steelmaking area, a continuous billet casting line, a power station, an environmental treatment system, technical infrastructure, and auxiliary works. Once operational, this new production line will enable the company to secure its raw material supply, complete its production chain from billet smelting to steel rolling, reduce costs, and improve product quality.

According to Bui Quoc Hoan, Deputy General Director of Southern Power Corporation (EVNSPC), metallurgy and steel production require a high-capacity power source, continuous operation, and stable quality. Specifically, Thep Nha Be's project needs a maximum capacity of 27,2 MW and an average consumption of approximately 6,975 million kWh per month.

To meet this demand, EVNSPC collaborated with the company to finalize the technical plan and signed a cooperation agreement on 17/4. The corporation will invest in the 110 kV Thep Nha Be substation and its connection lines within Nhon Trach II - Nhon Phu Industrial Park, Nhon Trach commune.

The substation is designed for a capacity of 2 x 40 MVA. In the initial phase, EVNSPC will install one 40 MVA transformer and prepare the foundation for a second unit, allowing for future expansion as load increases. The connection line, spanning 220 meters, comprises two circuits and will be directly linked to the existing 110 kV Long Thanh 2 - Hyosung 2 line.

The power project is scheduled for completion and energization in Q3/2027, approximately one quarter ahead of the steel billet production line's operational start. This timeline provides the company sufficient time for inspection, acceptance testing, and trial operation of the system before commencing full production.

Beyond supplying power to Thep Nha Be Factory, the new infrastructure will also alleviate strain on existing power sources, enhance grid interconnection capabilities, and boost the reliability of electricity supply for the entire Nhon Trach II - Nhon Phu Industrial Park. This industrial zone accommodates numerous large industrial loads, demanding a power system that simultaneously meets high capacity and stability requirements.

Bui Quoc Hoan affirmed that EVNSPC will dedicate resources to complete the project on schedule, in sync with the factory's construction and equipment installation. The corporation will also collaborate with the investor, regulatory bodies, and relevant units across all phases: design, construction, connection, and acceptance testing, to ensure the system operates safely once the steelmaking line is active.

To maintain the project schedule, EVNSPC has requested support from the Dong Nai People's Committee, the Department of Industry and Trade, and other relevant agencies for investor approval procedures and right-of-way clearance for the power line. Expediting these procedures will facilitate the synchronized implementation of the power project with the factory's construction timeline.

The power supply project for Thep Nha Be is part of EVNSPC's broader investment plan for power grids serving industrial zones and clusters in the Southern region. By preparing power sources and grids proactively before factories become operational, EVNSPC aims to meet emerging load demands while reinforcing the electricity supply capacity for each specific area.
