This information was announced by Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Cong Thanh at Green Transition Day 2026, an event organized by Lao dong Newspaper and the Ha Noi People's Committee on 16/5.
The Deputy Minister stated that successful green transition requires green capital flows, incentive mechanisms, and clear green criteria. In the coming period, the ministry will continue to refine environmental criteria and green project standards that meet circular economy principles. They will also promote transparency in green capital, greening production and consumption, and prevent "greenwashing".
According to Mr. Thanh, this aims to ensure that genuine, responsible, and innovative businesses have easier access to sustainable financial resources.

Last year, green credit accounted for nearly 4,2% of the economy's total outstanding loans. This includes loans for renewable energy, agriculture, transport, and waste treatment. Green credit grew by 9,5% and 14,6% in 2024 and 2025, respectively.
Vietnam aims for double-digit growth in the upcoming period to become a high-income country by 2045, coinciding with the 100th anniversary of its establishment. Policymakers also target net-zero emissions by 2045.
The Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development emphasized that green transition is not an optional incentive but a mandatory development requirement. It is essential for businesses to integrate deeper into global value chains and enhance national competitiveness.
According to him, policymakers have clearly defined the need to build a new growth model based on science and technology, innovation, digital transformation, and green transition. This involves promoting a digital, green, and circular economy, alongside energy transition.
"To achieve a new growth model, Vietnam must accelerate its green transition", Deputy Minister Le Cong Thanh stated. He added that green transition is not a fixed destination but a continuous journey of innovation. Therefore, every sector, locality, and business must define a clear roadmap with specific actions, without waiting or remaining on the sidelines.
At the event, Nguyen Thi Lam Giang, Director of the Department of Innovation, Green Transition and Industrial Promotion (Ministry of Industry and Trade), noted that Prime Minister's Directive 09, issued in 3/2026, mandates increased energy saving, accelerated energy transition, and the development of electric vehicles.
According to Ms. Giang, energy transition will reduce reliance on fossil fuels, decrease emissions, and open up development opportunities for new industries such as wind power, solar power, biomass, and green hydrogen. Meanwhile, developing green transport will drive the shift from gasoline-powered vehicles to electric vehicles, creating further opportunities for battery, charging station, and green transport infrastructure sectors.
