Former Techcombank CEO appointed Eximbank chairman

Eximbank has elected former Techcombank CEO, Nguyen Le Quoc Anh, as its new chairman, alongside a newly constituted board of directors, predominantly comprising foreign members.

Following an extraordinary general meeting of shareholders on 24/7, Vietnam Export Import Commercial Joint Stock Bank (Eximbank) passed a resolution to appoint Nguyen Le Quoc Anh as chairman, succeeding Pham Thi Huyen Trang. He also serves as an independent board member and the bank's legal representative.

On the same day, Eximbank appointed four new independent board members, all foreign nationals: Richa Goswami, Ooi Huey Tyng, Chua Teck Huat Bill, and Michael Richard Harte. Each brings over 30 years of experience in the finance and banking sectors.

Additionally, Nguyen Quoc Hung was appointed head of the supervisory board and a member of the supervisory board.

The new board of directors at Eximbank comprises six individuals who were recently elected and have no prior employment history with the bank.

Regarding Eximbank's new chairman, Nguyen Le Quoc Anh is widely recognized for his tenure as CEO of Vietnam Technological and Commercial Joint Stock Bank (Techcombank) from 2016 to 2020. He re-entered the market in late 2022, joining the board of VNG, but resigned after three months. Currently, he serves as the chief executive officer of One Globe Consulting Group.

Born in 1966, Nguyen Le Quoc Anh holds a doctorate in nuclear technology from Purdue University in Indiana, United States, and a master's degree from California State University, United States. His career includes senior management positions at prominent corporations and organizations such as T-Mobile US, Wells Fargo Bank, Fortress Investment Group, and McKinsey.

For the first half of 2026, Eximbank reported a pre-tax profit of 730 billion VND, a decrease of over 50% compared to the same period last year.

By the end of the second quarter, total assets reached 266,500 billion VND, a decrease of approximately 6,000 billion VND from the year-end figure. Mobilized capital stood at 192,600 billion VND, with outstanding loans exceeding 200,000 billion VND. The non-performing loan ratio was 2.88%, remaining below the bank's targeted 3%.

Since 7/2025, Gelex Group has been listed among shareholders holding over 1% of the bank's capital. The group is currently Eximbank's largest investor, with a 10% ownership stake. Following Gelex's involvement, the bank entered a restructuring phase and relocated its headquarters from TP HCM to Hanoi early this year.
