Italy's Foreign Ministry announced the US significantly lowered tariffs on Italian pasta producers. This decision follows a preliminary anti-dumping investigation into allegations of unfairly low pricing.
Previously, in 10/2025, President Donald Trump's administration announced that 13 Italian pasta manufacturing companies would face an additional 92% tariff. This was in addition to the standard 15% tariff already applied to most imports from the European Union.
Washington initially accused two producers, La Molisana and Garofalo, of selling pasta at unfairly low prices. However, after a review, a Commerce Department official stated that Italian exporters had addressed many concerns raised in the initial assessment.
Consequently, the US decided to reduce the proposed anti-dumping tariff for La Molisana to 2,26%, while the tariff for Garofalo was set at 13,98%. The remaining 11 pasta producers will now face a 9,09% tariff.

"The recalculation of the tariffs indicates that US authorities acknowledge the constructive cooperation from our businesses", Italy's Foreign Ministry commented.
The final decision on tariffs for Italian pasta is expected to be announced on 12/3, with a possible extension of up to 60 days. The US Commerce Department affirmed it would conduct a "fair and transparent process".
According to data from Italy's National Institute of Statistics (ISTAT), the total value of pasta exports in 2024 exceeded 4 billion euros (4,7 billion USD). The US market alone accounted for nearly 800 million USD. The 13 companies under review collectively represent approximately 16% of Italian pasta exports to the US.
The risk of pasta facing tariffs over 90% had previously put Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in a difficult position. She had hoped close ties with President Donald Trump would help Italian businesses avoid additional tariffs.
Margherita Mastromauro, President of the Pasta Sector at Unione Italiana Food, welcomed the significant reduction in the proposed new tariffs. "The decision by US authorities affirms their interest in Italy and our economic destiny", she stated.
