Eximbank recently announced that interbank transfers exceeding 500 million VND will only be processed via the normal channel starting from 21/4. The bank's online applications will no longer automatically split transactions for quick processing through Napas.
VPBank and TPBank issued similar announcements earlier this month, citing compliance with State Bank of Vietnam regulations.
Previously, most banks offered a "24/7 quick transfer splitting" feature. Under this system, banks automatically divided interbank transfers valued over 500 million VND into multiple smaller amounts, typically 450 million VND and the remainder. Some banks initially charged around 10,000 VND for each split order, but most later waived these fees. This feature allowed online transfers to be processed quickly via Napas's switching system, ensuring recipients received funds immediately, regardless of whether it was night or a holiday.
However, according to a revised Circular on payment intermediary services, effective from 11/2025, the maximum transaction value in VND for payment orders processed through the State Bank of Vietnam's electronic clearing system cannot exceed 500 million VND. When a payment order surpasses this limit, the bank's system switches to normal processing, with a processing time of at least 4 hours. If outside business hours, the transaction will be completed on the next business day.
This means that if a transfer over 500 million VND is initiated after business hours on a friday, the beneficiary at some banks might have to wait until monday to receive the funds.
Therefore, banks advise customers to proactively perform multiple transactions, each under 500 million VND, if they require quick transfers.
