VinEnergo invests 8 billion USD in Gia Lai wind power plant cluster

VinEnergo Energy Joint Stock Company signed a cooperation agreement with the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee on 28/3, to research and survey potential for an 8 billion USD wind power plant cluster in Gia Lai.

The Gia Lai wind power plant cluster project will be developed in two phases, aiming to be a leading facility in the region. Phase one is expected to achieve a total capacity of approximately 2,000 MW, with plans to expand to about 3,000 MW in phase two. The total estimated investment for the project is approximately 210,000 billion VND, equivalent to nearly 8 billion USD.

Once completed, the project is expected to establish a vast clean energy complex, contributing to long-term national energy security and driving socio-economic growth for Gia Lai province. This agreement signifies a key advancement in VinEnergo's strategy to expand its renewable energy investments, underscoring Vingroup Group's commitment to partnering with local communities for green transition and sustainable development.

Nguyen Huong Giang, Deputy General Director of VinEnergo, stated that by developing clean energy sources, the project will significantly contribute to reducing environmental pollution and addressing global climate change.

"We are committed to systematic, long-term investment, adhering to legal regulations to ensure economic efficiency and harmonize benefits among the State, local authorities, businesses, and people," a VinEnergo representative emphasized.

Nguyen Huu Que, Vice Chairman of the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee, stated that the locality highly values VinEnergo's capabilities in renewable energy and is committed to creating favorable conditions for the investor to promptly research and develop projects.

The company is currently investing in several large-scale renewable energy projects across various localities, including: Ky Anh Wind Power Plant (Ha Tinh, 400 MW designed capacity); Eco Wind Ky Anh Wind Power Plant (Ha Tinh, 498 MW designed capacity); Dien Bien 1 Solar Power Plant (Dien Bien, 300 MW designed capacity); Ban Chat 1 Floating Solar Power Plant (Lai Chau, 250 MW designed capacity); and Ban Chat 2 Floating Solar Power Plant (Lai Chau, 300 MW designed capacity).

With a strategic global expansion, VinEnergo has set a target to develop 100 GW of renewable energy over the next three years. This includes focusing on core international markets like North America, Northern Europe, the Mediterranean, and Southeast Asia, while also exploring potential markets in Central Asia and Africa. The company has already secured agreements for its initial international projects in Denmark, Sweden, and the Philippines, totaling 10 GW in capacity.
