Vu Van Tien returns as chairman of ABBank

Vu Van Tien has been appointed chairman of ABBank, while stepping down from a similar position at Geleximco Group.

On 14/11, An Binh Commercial Joint Stock Bank (ABBank) announced the appointment of Vu Van Tien as chairman of its board of directors (BOD), replacing Dao Manh Khang for the remainder of the 2023-2027 term. This marks Tien's return to the top leadership role at the bank, having previously served as chairman from 2005 to 2018. To comply with regulations for his return, Tien resigned from his positions as chairman and general director of Geleximco Group, where he remains chairman of the founding council.

Tien, born in 1959, holds a bachelor's degree in economics. He first joined ABBank's board of directors in 2003. His previous tenure as chairman concluded in 2018 when he stepped down to adhere to regulations preventing enterprise leaders from concurrently holding similar roles at a bank. The chairmanship was then transferred to Dao Manh Khang, his brother-in-law. Prior to this new appointment, Tien served as vice chairman of ABBank.

Following Tien's resignation from Geleximco, Vu Van Hau, the group's deputy general director, will assume his former roles at the company. Hau is Vu Van Tien's younger brother and also serves as the current general director of Viettronics.

In addition to Tien's appointment, ABBank also named Le Manh Hung, born in 1979, as its new general director, succeeding Pham Duy Hieu. Hung brings over 23 years of experience in the finance and banking sector, having previously served as director of ABBank's wholesale banking division since 2017.

ABBank has reported strong financial performance. As of 30/9, the bank's total assets exceeded 204,400 billion VND, representing a 25% increase since the beginning of the year. For the nine-month period, ABBank recorded a pre-tax profit of over 2,300 billion VND, which is eight times higher than last year.

Geleximco, an enterprise established in 1993, holds a 17% stake in ABBank. The group operates across diverse sectors, including real estate, industrial production, trade and services, and high-tech agriculture.
