This initiative was discussed during a meeting between Nguyen Manh Hung, Chairman of Da Nang People's Committee, and leaders of Da Nang University on 14/5.
Currently, the city has 15 universities and research institutes. Hung stated this is a solution to effectively utilize public assets and balance infrastructure after administrative boundary mergers.
"The city is considering relocating some training activities, especially for regular students, to the south, not moving the entire university urban area," Hung said.
According to Hung, while central Da Nang faces population and infrastructure overload, the southern area possesses many underutilized facilities. Moving students there will stimulate local socioeconomic development.
The city plans to prioritize public investment resources, developing infrastructure connecting two airports and linking with Tam Ky, thereby expanding educational and service spaces.
Hung urged all parties to promptly complete procedures and propose a plan to merge Quang Nam University into a member university of Da Nang University. Da Nang University is tasked with surveying facilities there to quickly devise a plan for student relocation.
Also at the meeting, Associate Professor Nguyen Ngoc Vu, Director, proposed adjusting the master plan for the University Urban Area to 500 hectares by adding 300 hectares in Dien Ban Dong ward and about 100 hectares in Que Son commune.
According to Vu, completing facilities there is a crucial prerequisite for the institution to develop into a national university model and join the ranks of leading universities in Asia.
Currently, the university urban area in Ngu Hanh Son ward (110 hectares) has largely completed site clearance, with construction expected to finish for use by 10/2027. However, the area in Dien Ban Dong ward (190 hectares) faces challenges due to dense population, rendering the old site clearance plan unfeasible. Therefore, Da Nang University requested the city address land price tables and adjust the 1/2000 master plan.
A representative from the Department of Construction stated they would study integrating the proposal into the general master plan.

The initiative to build Da Nang University Village dates back to 1997, with a planned scale of about 300 hectares and an estimated total investment of 1,700 ty dong at the time, aiming to create a major training hub for the Central region. However, the project has been repeatedly adjusted and prolonged in a state of suspended planning.
In 2019, the project was relaunched. Da Nang University implemented the initial phase with a total capital of nearly 2,800 ty dong to construct training facilities and dormitories.
