In 2026, Hanoi saw approximately 147,000 junior high school graduates, with a record high of over 124,000 students applying for the 10th-grade public high school entrance exam. With an enrollment target of about 82,660, the admission rate for registered candidates stands at 66%.
Candidates took exams in three subjects – mathematics, literature, and a foreign language (primarily English) – on 30-31/5. These scores are used for admission to 119 public non-specialized high schools, with the admission score being the unweighted sum of the three subjects.
Additionally, nearly 17,000 candidates applying to four specialized high schools took an additional subject on 1/6. The computer science specialization exam, however, used mathematics. Candidates for natural sciences, history and geography, and foreign language specializations wrote their answers directly on the exam papers. For specialized schools, the admission score is calculated from the total of the three general subjects plus the specialized subject score, which is weighted by a factor of two, for a maximum total of 50 points.
The 10th-grade exam results and benchmark scores for Hanoi are anticipated to be released between 19/6 and 22/6.
