This welfare policy for Tet Binh Ngo, aimed at civil servants, public employees, and public sector workers, was announced by the city People's Committee and disseminated by the Department of Education and Training on 6/2.
According to the Department, teachers and contract workers are eligible for the Tet gift, with the recipient list based on the February payroll.
Schools with financial autonomy, managing their own recurrent and investment expenditures, will use their resources to fund Tet gifts for their teachers. Other schools will draw from funds allocated in their 2026 budget.
Public school teachers do not typically receive a 13th-month salary or Tet bonus like employees in private businesses. However, specific city policies provide them with additional income for Q4 and Tet gifts. Teachers also receive bonuses under Decree 73. Many schools further distribute funds from their budget surplus and annual expenditure savings to their teaching staff.
Teachers receive Tet bonuses of 10-14 million VND
These amounts are disbursed at the end of the year, so teachers consider them "Tet bonuses." Overall, the total amount each teacher receives has increased compared to last year. This rise is partly because the bonus under Decree 73 is now calculated for a full year, rather than just 6 months as in the previous year.
A survey of many schools revealed that teachers in Ho Chi Minh City could receive up to over 100 million VND this year, depending on their salary grade and seniority.
