Ho Chi Minh City University of Law announced its official admission plan on the afternoon of 28/4. This year, the university introduces four new majors: Digital Economics, E-commerce, Financial Technology, and Chinese Language.
The university's admission changes include a reduction in bonus points for international language certificates and SAT scores, along with the retention of specific subject combinations for the 2026 intake. This decision aligns with the latest admission regulations from the Ministry of Education and Training.
The maximum bonus points for international certificates and SAT scores have been halved to 1,5, down from the initially projected 3 points earlier this year. This adjustment directly impacts applicants seeking admission through the combined academic transcript method.
Ho Chi Minh City University of Law will utilize four admission methods: direct admission; admission based on national high school graduation exam scores; combined academic transcripts and international certificates; academic transcript admission for students from 149 high schools prioritized by Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City; and V-SAT university entrance assessment scores.
For combined academic transcript admission, applicants must have a total average score of 22,5 or higher for three subjects across six semesters. Additionally, they need a minimum IELTS certificate of 5.5, a TOEFL iBT score of 65 (or 3.0 for the Home Edition), a DELF French language certificate at B1 level, or a TCF French language proficiency test score of 300 points per skill. For Japanese, a JLPT certificate of N3 (level 3/6) or higher is required. Students submitting SAT scores need a minimum of 1150/1600.
The combined admission score is the total score of the three-subject combination, plus bonus points, and priority points. Foreign language certificates and SAT scores will be converted into bonus points according to the university's specified scale.
The bonus point scale for IELTS and other English certificates at Ho Chi Minh City University of Law is as follows:
| IELTS Score | TOEFL iBT Score | SAT Score | Bonus Points | |
| Taken before 21/1/2026 | Taken from 21/1/2026 | |||
| 5.5 | 65-72 | 3.0 | 1150-1200 | 0,5 |

| 6.5 | 81-88 | 4.0 | 1270-1320 | 1 |
| 7.0 | 89-95 | 4.5 | 1330-1380 | 1,25 |
| 7.5 or higher | 95 or higher | 5.0 or higher | 1390 or higher | 1,5 |
The bonus point scale for Japanese, French, Korean, and Chinese certificates is as follows:
| French Certificate (DELF) | French Certificate (TCF) | Japanese Certificate (JLPT) | Chinese Certificate (HSK) | Bonus Points |
| B1 | Equivalent to B1 | N3 | HSK 3 | 1 |
| B2 | Equivalent to B2 | N2 | HSK 4 | 1,25 |
| C1 or higher | Equivalent to C1 or higher | N1 | HSK 5 or higher | 1,5 |
For admission based on national high school graduation exam scores, Ho Chi Minh City University of Law will continue to use the A00 (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry) and C00 (Literature, History, Geography) combinations for 2026. These two blocks were previously expected to be eliminated.
However, from 2028, all admission combinations will be required to include English. This means the A00 and C00 combinations will no longer be used for university admissions across the country.
