Nguyen Dang Phuc, a student from Hong Ngoc Primary and Secondary School, topped the public 10th grade entrance exam with 28,75 out of 30 points, surpassing 151,000 candidates.
"Despite the high score, I did not expect to be the valedictorian. This afternoon, many teachers and friends messaged me with congratulations, which surprised me", Phuc said.

With two perfect scores of ten in math and English, 8,75 in literature, and over four points in specialized math, he was admitted to the specialized math class at Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted.
The student expressed regret over his performance in the specialized math exam, as his score did not meet expectations. Previously, he was admitted to the specialized math program at Pho Thong Nang Khieu with 35,95 out of 50 points. In the city-level student competition in March, Phuc secured third prize in math.
Despite this, math remains his most challenging subject, alongside literature. He recounted that his focus gradually overcame his anxiety once he started the exam. For English, he completed the test in 30 minutes. For math and literature, Phuc finished entirely, dedicating five final minutes to review. When comparing answers, he could almost estimate his scores.
Regarding his study methods, Phuc stated he has no special technique. Beyond classroom hours, he studies daily with teachers at school until around 5-6 PM. In the evening, he spends one to two hours reviewing lessons, then watches television, talks with his parents, and goes to bed before 11 PM. Each week, Phuc reserves sunday afternoons for playing soccer.
The student shared that he enjoys studying math thanks to a group of six close friends who are all passionate about the subject. The group often shares and discusses interesting math problems, then participates in student competitions together.
Nguyen Dang Tam, Phuc's father, stated he always feels confident because his son is highly self-disciplined in his studies, rarely needing reminders or pressure. Phuc independently plans his schedule and academic path. His school choices and aspirations are also his own decisions.
Having decided to join the specialized math class, Phuc mentioned he will take a few more days to finalize his school choice. Long-term, he aims to focus more on math, chemistry, and biology to pursue a medical career, continuing a family tradition.
