On 20/6, the Department of Education and Training announced that Nguyen Dang Phuc, a student from Hong Ngoc Primary and Secondary School in Tan Thoi Hoa ward, was the top scorer in the 10th grade entrance exam.
Although 10 other students achieved admission scores equal to or higher than Phuc, ranging from 28.75 to 29.75 due to one to 3.5 priority points, the Department determined the valedictorian based on the highest total exam score across three subjects, excluding priority points.
According to the Hong Ngoc Primary and Secondary School's Fanpage, Phuc successfully passed the specialized mathematics entrance exams for both Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted and the High School for the Gifted (Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City). He previously won third prize in the city-level excellent student competition for mathematics and holds an IELTS certificate with a score of 6.5.
The 10th grade exam concluded on 2/6. In the first year following the integration of the examination system (Ho Chi Minh City, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Binh Duong), the city registered over 151,000 candidates, the highest number nationwide. Given that the exam difficulty was reduced compared to the former Ho Chi Minh City area, many teachers and principals anticipate an increase in cut-off scores by approximately 0.25 to 2 points.
Yesterday, the Department announced the admission benchmarks for specialized and integrated 10th grade classes, along with the exam scores of the 151,000 candidates. The cut-off scores for regular 10th grade classes are expected to be announced after 23/6.
