Over 151,000 candidates across Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, and Ba Ria - Vung Tau have begun the nation's largest 10th-grade entrance exam. The exam commenced on the morning of 1/6 with the Literature subject, lasting 120 minutes.
Nguyen Van Hieu, Director of the Department of Education and Training, announced on 30/5 that the 10th-grade exam questions would be open-ended, requiring practical application. He added that the difficulty would be adjusted to match the abilities of students in the three regions. He encouraged candidates to approach the exam with confidence, utilizing the knowledge they had prepared.
This year marks the first time students and teachers from Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau regions are joining the exam with Ho Chi Minh City. The Department emphasized organizational procedures, noting differences from previous years in aspects like distributing scratch paper, answer sheets, and transporting candidate papers. Invigilators are instructed to prioritize candidate rights in all circumstances. Phan Thi Hoi, in charge of facilities at Bau Bang High School exam venue in Bau Bang commune, noted a strong sense of urgency and concentration among invigilators and staff. She added that the Department has diligently overseen and reminded staff of regulations, covering everything from exam question and paper handover to contingency plans for unusual situations and equipment preparation.
The city registered over 151,300 students for the 10th-grade exam, while public high schools offer approximately 118,550 places. Bui Thi Xuan High School recorded the highest admission ratio at 1/2,84, with one out of every three candidates securing a spot. Conversely, over 40 schools had a competition ratio below 1, meaning fewer registered candidates than available places. Applying to these schools offers students a higher chance of admission.
Candidates will take the Foreign Language exam this afternoon, lasting 90 minutes. On 7/6, they will sit for the Mathematics exam for 120 minutes. Subsequently, those aspiring to specialized classes will take an additional corresponding subject exam, lasting 150 minutes. Admission scores for general 10th-grade classes are calculated from the total of three subjects, along with any priority or incentive points. For specialized classes, the formula uses the total score of the three general subjects (coefficient 1) combined with the specialized subject score (coefficient 2).
