Today, Quang Ha commune police reported receiving a call at approximately 3:30 p.m. on 28/5 concerning two children in critical condition.
Initial investigations revealed that five children were swimming in the pool at Nguyen Du high school, located in Ngo Quyen village, Quang Ha commune.
Upon observing three children exhibiting unusual symptoms, including fainting, Vi Dinh Minh, the pool operator, and other bystanders promptly pulled them from the water. They administered first aid before rushing the children to Mong Cai General Hospital – facility two for emergency care.
According to the hospital, a 13-year-old male student was admitted in cardiac arrest. Following emergency resuscitation, he regained spontaneous circulation and was transferred to Quang Ninh Provincial General Hospital for ongoing treatment.
Another 9-year-old child was diagnosed with respiratory failure and aspiration pneumonia, also requiring transfer to a higher-level facility. The third student, also 9 years old, is in stable condition and is under observation in the pediatric ward.
Following a site inspection, Quang Ha commune police and specialized teams examined the pool's roof area. They found an electrical current running through the corrugated iron roof support pillars. Authorities initially concluded the children suffered electrocution.
Further details have not yet been released.
Many schools currently operate swimming pools for physical education classes, alongside local drowning prevention training and competitions. During the summer, these pools are often leased to external operators for public use.
