A decision on May 26 stated that the Ministry of Industry and Trade directs relevant agencies and units to transfer and receive the current status of students, personnel, finances, and assets of the two schools.
The merger process must ensure normal operations, preventing any negativity, loss, or waste of finances and assets.
Electric Power University will continue to train and grant degrees to students currently enrolled at College of Economics - Technical and Trade, ensuring the rights and benefits of the students.

College of Economics - Technical and Trade was established in 1961, with its headquarters in Phu Luong ward, Hanoi (formerly Ha Dong district). This institution provides multi-level training (from elementary to college), multi-disciplinary education, research, application, technology transfer, and consulting services in the industrial and commercial sectors.
Currently, the college enrolls students in 18 college-level majors and 11 intermediate-level majors. Students can attend the school from grade 10, simultaneously pursuing both a high school general education program and an intermediate vocational program.
Electric Power University dates back to 1898 and currently has 4 locations: Nghia Do, Phu Luong, Soc Son commune, and Hoa Lac in Hanoi. It is a multi-disciplinary, application-oriented research university focusing on engineering technology and economics, with a priority on the energy sector.
The university currently offers 32 undergraduate majors, 9 master's programs, and 7 doctoral programs, with over 20,000 students. Beyond education, the university excels in research across areas such as: engineering systems in power plants, substations, and electricity transmission lines; measurement, control, protection, monitoring, and wide-area communication systems.
Electric Power University aims to become an innovative university by 2045, with its ranking and competitiveness indicators placing it among the top 100 in Asia.
