Global and Vietnamese statistics highlight a pressing issue: one in 7 children aged 10-19 worldwide experience mental disorders, accounting for 13% of childhood diseases in this age group, according to a November 2021 World Health Organization (WHO) report. The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) also indicates that 20% of Vietnamese adolescents are grappling with mental health challenges.
Beyond intensive therapy, many young individuals are turning to books for psychological insights and emotion management exercises. Responding to this need, Medinsights, a medical book imprint of Alpha Books, launched a series of three works in early May: 'Escaping Anxiety, Understanding Emotions for Teens', '125 Emotion Regulation Cards using the DBT Method', and 'The Pocket Therapist'.
'Escaping Anxiety, Understanding Emotions for Teens' serves as a practical "toolkit" rather than a conventional self-help guide. Doctor Regine Galanti leads readers through steps to identify and reconcile with their fears. The author presents three core exercise groups: focus, which helps disentangle chaotic thoughts and distinguish between realistic concerns and self-created anxieties; mindfulness, a skill for maintaining composure and avoiding extreme emotional reactions; and action, the vital element for fostering lasting change.
The book has garnered positive reviews from clinical psychology experts globally. Mitchell L. Schare, Professor of Psychology at Hofstra University, US, noted, "This is a well-structured therapy manual, specifically designed and written to reflect the complexities of young people's lives. Drawing from various cognitive behavioral therapy approaches, Doctor Galanti explores aspects very familiar in teen behavior, thoughts, and emotional experiences." Doctor of Psychology Yael Muskat commended the book's clear language and diagrams, calling it a valuable resource for adolescents, young adults, parents, and professionals.

'125 Emotion Regulation Cards using the DBT Method' was compiled by Doctor Kiki Fehling, a psychology expert and member of the DBT-Linehan Board. Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based psychological method developed to help individuals regulate extreme emotions, reduce self-destructive behaviors, and improve their quality of life.
The 125 practice cards are structured around four key pillars of the DBT method. First is Mindfulness, which guides users to observe emotions without judgment, reducing future anxiety or past regrets. The second pillar, Distress Tolerance, offers strategies for navigating emotional crises.
The third pillar, Emotion Regulation, teaches how to identify, name, and modify unwanted emotional reactions to maintain composure in various situations. Finally, Interpersonal Effectiveness provides skills for setting boundaries, articulating needs, and resolving conflicts adeptly.

Doctor Annie Zimmerman's 'The Pocket Therapist' targets individuals who feel stuck, overwhelmed by anxiety, or affected by relationship trauma. By guiding readers to explore their past, the author helps unravel psychological complexities and decode the origins of their reactions. The book advocates for self-compassion and forgiveness, urging readers to cease self-blame.
