A chance phone call leads to love for 'Romance in the Rain' actress

Chinese actress Xu Lu, known for her role in 'Romance in the Rain', found love after receiving a call from a stranger.

The 50-year-old actress recently opened up about her love life and family in a video posted on 23/9. Known for her preference for privacy, she explained her decision to speak publicly, saying she wanted to address recent misinformation circulating on social media about her family, including false claims about her reasons for marrying her husband and having children.

Xu Lu rose to fame in the 2000s with roles in dramas like "Golden Powder Family" and "Romance in the Rain," leading to a demanding work schedule. Seeking tranquility, she took a break from acting to travel and practice yoga. One morning, she received an unexpected call from Jiang Kai Yang, a director she'd heard of but never met.

Jiang Kai Yang explained that he had seen her on a television program and been moved by her perspectives on family and life. He'd then obtained her number from a mutual acquaintance. Their first phone conversation lasted over two hours.

Jiang Kai Yang’s voice resonated with Xu Lu, and she felt an instant connection, as if they were long-lost kindred spirits. She found herself falling for him. "Fate is a mysterious thing," she shared. "He happened to turn on the TV at that moment, and I happened to answer a call from a stranger, and now we're in love. Love doesn't always come from appearances or money; it's about meeting the right person at the right time."

Xu Lu and Jiang Kai Yang married in 2003 and have been together for 22 years. Their daughter, Jiang You Ning, works as a screenwriter and director.

Xu Lu debuted in 1996 and gained recognition for her portrayal of Ke Yun in the 2001 drama "Romance in the Rain," alongside Zhao Wei and Ruby Lin. Her character, a poor and innocent young woman, faces forbidden love, endures hardship, and experiences the tragic loss of a child. She has also appeared in productions like "Wutong Rain," "Golden Powder Family," "Never Compromise," "Xi Shi," and "Kangxi's Private Visit 2."

Since getting married, Xu Lu has focused on her family, reducing her acting commitments. She expresses contentment with her simple life and embraces the natural signs of aging. "I don't want to erase the marks of time on my body," she stated. "I'm grateful for and accept these changes."
