Veteran actor Viet Anh finds love and support with younger partner

69-year-old Viet Anh enjoys pickleball, acting collaborations, and a fulfilling relationship with his partner and manager, Chan Chan.

On 22/9, the veteran actor took his partner, Chan Chan, to buy an iPhone 17 in Ho Chi Minh City. She jokingly referred to the phone as a "bonus" from her boyfriend after they both competed in a pickleball tournament.

Viet Anh shared his and Chan Chan's recent enthusiasm for pickleball. While they often play together, they compete on separate teams to maintain a suitable pace. For years, he has maintained an active lifestyle, including playing tennis, to improve his flexibility and endurance.

During the Tet At Ty holiday, he drove his partner on his motorbike to deliver Tet gifts to those in need within the theater community. They share a commitment to social work.

The actor expressed his happiness in having Chan Chan's support in his career. They recently co-starred in their first television drama, Hau Giang Thuong Nho (Hau Giang Memories), which aired in early September. Chan Chan played a member of a company's board of directors, sharing several scenes with Viet Anh.

In her free time, she often seeks guidance from him on acting techniques and understanding character psychology. "He's like a living dictionary, always thoroughly explaining anything I'm curious about. He's very dynamic and up-to-date, even more modern in his thinking than some younger people like me," Chan Chan said.

After over a year together, Viet Anh says he hasn't thought about marriage. "The most important thing to me is the deep affection we have for each other. I believe in contentment and don't feel the need for ostentation," he stated.

He occasionally takes his partner on trips to Da Lat and the central provinces. Viet Anh sees Chan Chan as a source of emotional support in his later years. They met early last year while he was filming a music video for singer Khanh Tran Rio. She was the project manager, and the filming took place at her home in the Mekong Delta.

He was impressed by her energy and attentiveness to everyone. "She treated every member of the crew kindly, even declining payment to support the artists," the actor said.

In addition to supporting his acting career, she also helps him create cooking vlogs featuring everyday dishes like Mekong Delta sour soup and buttered toast. For the past three months, he has been selling seafood stir-fried noodles and braised shrimp in his spare time to earn extra income, with enthusiastic support from his partner.

Born Nguyen Van Liem in Ho Chi Minh City, the artist began his career in the 1980s. In theater, he made his mark in plays like Loi Vu (Thunderstorm), Da Co Hoai Lang, Dem Hoa Mi (Nightingale Night), and 41 Doa Hong (41 Roses). In 1995, his role as Mr. Nam in Da Co Hoai Lang earned him a Mai Vang award for Best Actor in a Drama.

On television, he is admired for his versatility in hundreds of productions. In 2001, he was awarded the title of Meritorious Artist, later receiving the People's Artist title in 2019. In recent years, he has acted in several popular films by Tran Thanh, including Bo Gia (Dad, I'm Sorry) (2021), Nha Ba Nu (The House of Mrs. Nu) (2023), and Mai (2024).
