On her personal social media, Ruotong shared that she frequently receives messages from fans expressing similar sentiments: "I'm very sad, I feel useless, unable to cope with any pressure," "I have no friends, no one listens to me," and "I lack the energy and motivation to work."

The actress expressed concern for these fans, having personally experienced similar emotions. She created the video to share her journey. At the age of 42, following a series of difficult events, including a broken engagement with her long-term partner and the passing of her father, Li Ruotong developed depression. She isolated herself and even contemplated ending her life.
During her darkest moments, Li Ruotong reminded herself to focus on her mother, the person she loved most. She reasoned that if she were to suffer, her mother would be devastated. This thought helped her steer clear of destructive impulses.
She sought professional help from a psychiatrist, actively collaborating with the medical team. Initially, the doctor explored various medications before finding one that suited Li Ruotong's condition. While she experienced some side effects, the medication gradually helped stabilize her mood and improved her overall health. She diligently adhered to the prescribed dosage and no longer requires medication.
Li Ruotong reflected on past activities that brought her joy, leading her to resume habits like sports and cooking. She committed to daily gym visits, finding satisfaction in building muscle and feeling more energetic. The actress remarked, "The feeling of breaking a sweat during physical training, that joy, is truly the secret to maintaining beauty."
After five years of treatment, transitioning from feeling like "a soulless shell, living without purpose or motivation," Li Ruotong describes herself as a phoenix reborn from the ashes. She actively re-engaged in various fields, including film, fashion, sports, and livestream selling.
For nearly 10 years, Li Ruotong has remained free of psychological symptoms. On her 59th birthday in August, the actress reflected that in past relationships, she didn't prioritize self-love, but now she understands that "losing oneself is more frightening than losing love." She wrote, "People say portraying Tieu Long Nu was the best phase of Li Ruotong's life. That's true, but the only difference is, every day moving forward will be even better."
