Lai Peter currently relies on music royalties and YouTube for income. This year, his health has deteriorated significantly, with multiple hospitalizations for influenza and declining kidney function. He has lost 7 kg in six months and is also battling anemia and diabetes.
Adding to his burdens is his 37-year-old adopted son, Wong Chung Chak, who is unemployed. Lai Peter supported Wong's traditional Chinese medicine studies in mainland China, but Wong dropped out before graduating. Upon returning to Hong Kong, Wong refused to work, becoming immersed in video games and financially dependent on his father. Lai Peter has already paid over 100,000 HKD (333 million dong) in credit card debt for his son.

Although their relationship was once strained, Wong has recently started bringing his father meals and accompanying him to medical appointments. Lai Peter worries about his son's future, fearing he might "end up homeless" if he is no longer around.
Lai Peter's situation has garnered significant public attention. Thousands of people have commented online, some suggesting his search for a partner is akin to "seeking a free housekeeper." Others see his case as a reflection of a broader societal issue: the loneliness and emotional needs of the elderly.
Lai Peter is a prominent Hong Kong musician, having composed dozens of songs for singers like Samuel Hui, Leslie Cheung, Anita Mui, George Lam, and Frances Yip, many of which are considered classics in the Chinese music scene.
His film credits include collaborations with Stephen Chow in "Fight Back to School" (1991), "King of Beggars" (1992), and "Flirting Scholar" (1993). He has also appeared in over 50 TVB television series, such as "Old Time Buddy," "Justice Sung," "The Duke of Mount Deer" (1998), "A Road and a Will," "A Step into the Past," "The Legend of Love," and "Witness to a Prosecution." He left TVB in 2022 after completing "Stranger Anniversary" and "Let Me Take Your Pulse."
