Airborne Showdown and other Vietnamese films hitting theaters in september

Airborne Showdown, based on a true Vietnamese hijacking, joins comedies and horror films in september's cinema lineup.

Four Vietnamese films will premiere in september, offering diverse genres. Airborne Showdown, inspired by a true plane hijacking, leads the pack. The comedic Pha Dam: Sinh Nhat Me (Crashing: Mom's Birthday) explores family dynamics, while Co Dau Ma (Ghost Bride) and Khe Uoc Ban Dau (The Dowry Contract) delve into horror and psychological themes.

Airborne Showdown

Directed by Ham Tran and produced by the People's Public Security Cinema and Galaxy Studio, Airborne Showdown depicts a hijacking led by Long (Thai Hoa), along with his accomplices Ti (Vo Dien Gia Huy), Suu (Bao Dinh), and Dan (Ray Nguyen). They seize control of a civilian aircraft, holding passengers and crew hostage in an attempt to escape the country. A flight crew of nearly 10, including two flight attendants (Kaity Nguyen and Tram Anh), must fight back against the criminals to ensure the safety of everyone on board.

Written and produced by Nguyen Thanh Binh (also known as Binh Bong Bot), this film centers on an urban family burdened by the pressure to succeed. During the mother's birthday celebration, long-hidden conflicts and tensions erupt between family members. This Vietnamese-Thai collaboration, directed by Lee Thongkham, was initially slated for release on 29/8 but was pushed back to early september for final editing. The story follows Yen (Rima Thanh Vy), who travels to Thailand to meet the family of her wealthy fiance, Bank (JJ Krissanapoom). She encounters the ghost of a bride and uncovers dark secrets within her future in-laws' opulent lifestyle.

Khe Uoc Ban Dau (The Dowry Contract)

Directed by Le Van Kiet, the film revolves around Nguyen Thi Nhai (Lam Thanh My), a young woman from the northern mountains who becomes the concubine of Vu The Dinh (Huu Vi), the son of the Vu family. After the wedding ceremony, Nhai is tasked with bearing a son to carry on the family legacy. Tragedy strikes when she unknowingly enters into a pact with an evil entity.

Based on the renowned Stephen King novel (written under the pseudonym Richard Bachman), The Long Walk depicts a brutal survival game set in the US. Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson and inspired by Thomas Pynchon's 1990 novel Vineland, the film stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Bob Ferguson, a former member of an organization called French 75.
