Cast of 'Grandma's Treasure' revealed

Artists Hong Dao, Huu Chau, and Viet Huong reunite in "Grandma's Treasure" - a film about the bond between a grandmother and grandchild, directed by Khuong Ngoc.

Teaser for Grandma's Treasure - slated for release in October. Video: Provided by the film crew.

Viet Huong reunites with Khuong Ngoc after the success of "Sister-in-Law" (2024), playing the lead role of Mrs. Hau. Raising her child alone after her husband's early death, she quit her accounting job to make ends meet by selling coffee in front of her house. Although she loves her children and grandchildren, her overprotective nature creates conflict.

From right to left: Hong Dao, Le Khanh, and Viet Huong - the three lead actresses in the film. The main setting takes place in a small alley in Ho Chi Minh City, depicting generational conflicts revolving around a grandmother, mother, and granddaughter.

Director Khuong Ngoc has nurtured the script for many years. He chose the story about a grandmother because it's a rare theme in Vietnamese cinema. Inspired by similar films in the region, such as the 2024 Thai hit "Grandma's Possessions", Ngoc was impressed by how filmmakers explored family relationships.

Hong Dao takes on a new role after "Taking Mom to Abandon Her" - released in early August. She plays Mrs. Khanh - a real estate agent and single mother whose child is grown and grandchild attends international school. The actress portrays a lively, dynamic woman with a penchant for foreign things in several comedic scenes.

Artist Huu Chau plays Mr. Tu, a neighbor of Mrs. Hau and Mrs. Khanh, and portrays scenes about community bonds.

Le Khanh plays Diem - Mrs. Khanh's daughter, who loves her mother but struggles to express her feelings. Khuong Ngoc decided to cast Le Khanh in this new film after her standout performance as the pragmatic sister-in-law in "Sister-in-Law".

Bang Di returns to cinema after two years, following her villainous role in "Southern Forest Land" (2023). She plays Thuong - Mrs. Hau's daughter, who made a past mistake in love, leading to an unplanned pregnancy. Due to postpartum depression, she lacks a bond with her child, entrusting the baby's care to her mother.

The film also features young actress Lam Thanh My (left) - playing Su, Mrs. Hau's granddaughter. Lacking parental love, Su has lived with her grandmother since childhood and receives the best care from her. As she enters adolescence, her emotions change, and she grows distant from her grandmother.

TikToker Thu Dan plays Ti - Mrs. Khanh's granddaughter.

Khuong Ngoc drew upon his childhood memories of his mother and grandmother for the film. As a child, he was loved and protected by his grandmother, whom he considered the "most powerful person in the house". In making the film, the director wanted to portray a grandmother who is awkward in expressing affection but silently sacrifices her time, energy, and happiness for her grandchild.
