On 22/6, Cheung recorded a video of herself holding a cake and wishing the actor well, saying she always remembers his birthday. She also posted a photo of herself and Chow from the 1999 film King of Comedy.
Cheung's video quickly became a trending topic on Weibo, garnering numerous views and comments. Thousands of viewers reminisced about the iconic line exchange between the two actors in the film. Cheung’s character asks, "If I don't work, will you take care of me?", to which Chow's character replies, "I will take care of you."
Cheung once told Ifeng that without Chow's support, she wouldn't have achieved the career she has today. At 19, she caught the actor's eye and landed the lead role in King of Comedy, which propelled her to fame as a top Hong Kong star. The film tells the story of Yin Tianchou, a struggling actor who dreams of making it big. He faces numerous setbacks but maintains a kind heart.
Chow grew up in poverty and joined TVB in 1981. He initially played insignificant roles, appearing only for a few seconds onscreen. His career took off in 1989 with a lead role in The Final Combat. In the 1990s, he starred in a series of hit comedy films that resonated across Asia, including God of Gamblers, Fight Back to School, and Flirting Scholar.
