Chaumet: the crown jeweler to royalty

Associated with European royalty for over two centuries, Chaumet crowns are seen as symbols of power, beauty, and French master craftsmanship.

Chaumet crowns are a high-end symbol of French royal crown-making artistry, synonymous with the Chaumet brand, one of France's oldest and most prestigious jewelers. The brand was founded in 1780 by Marie-Etienne Nitot, jeweler to Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte.

Nitot, and later his son François-Regnault Nitot, designed numerous crowns, jewelry, and ceremonial weapons for Napoleon and Empress Josephine, marking a deep connection between Chaumet and the French royal family.

From the 19th to the early 20th century, Chaumet designed and crafted over 3,500 crowns for aristocracy and royalty throughout Europe. The Belle Epoque (1871-1914) and Art Deco (1920-1939) periods marked the pinnacle of Chaumet's crown artistry, featuring exquisite designs using diamonds, platinum, and inspiration from nature, flowers, stars, and more. Indian princes and the Maharajas of Baroda and Indore all sought out Chaumet as the foremost contemporary jeweler of the time.

Since 1999, Chaumet has been part of the LVMH Group, continuing to launch modern crown collections while retaining its classic essence and regal spirit. New crown models in collections like "Josephine," "Laurier," and "Bee de Chaumet" (formerly "Bee My Love") showcase the intersection of classic and contemporary design. The Chaumet Museum in Paris regularly exhibits antique and modern crown masterpieces for public viewing.

While the Josephine collection draws inspiration from the empress of the same name, featuring graceful, feminine jewelry centered around pear-shaped (or teardrop) diamonds, Bee de Chaumet cultivates the honeycomb motif and the golden bee emblem, once a royal symbol of Napoleon Bonaparte.

For centuries, Chaumet jewelry, especially crowns, has been the choice of aristocracy and royalty for important occasions. In 2023, at her fairytale wedding, Jordan's Princess Iman notably chose not to wear her mother Queen Rania's crown. Instead, she opted for an exquisite diamond crown belonging to her grandmother, Princess Muna Al Hussein, crafted by Chaumet.

In 2025, Chaumet launched a high jewelry collection named "Bamboo," inspired by the bamboo plant—a symbol of integrity, resilience, and gentleness in East Asian philosophy. The collection's highlight is the Bamboo crown, exquisitely crafted from white and yellow gold. Its design mimics slender bamboo shoots reaching skyward, incorporating flexible joint techniques to create a light, lively feel, like bamboo swaying in the wind.

The crown is adorned with four brilliant-cut diamonds (approximately 0.42 carats each) and rows of smaller pave diamonds, adding sparkle while maintaining a refined, elegant aesthetic. This design embodies a modern, abstract, and architectural spirit, reminiscent of Art Deco while retaining Chaumet's signature femininity. According to the brand, the Bamboo crown is not only a pinnacle of artistic craftsmanship but also a tribute to the beauty of nature and the sustainable creative legacy Chaumet consistently pursues.

The brand combines goldsmithing techniques to create a hand-engraved golden leaf crown, blending luxurious white and yellow gold tones.

Known as the "jeweler of nature," Chaumet consistently delivers designs that preserve elements of plants, air, and the environment.

Speaking to the South China Morning Post (SCMP), a company representative stated that Asia and the Middle East are key markets for this unique type of jewelry. With Chaumet's presence in Vietnam, Vietnamese brides will not only sparkle with Bee de Chaumet or Josephine rings but also make their mark with a crown.

Beyond crowns, the brand's jewelry range is extensive, from engagement rings to large necklaces and even jeweled watches.
