In 1883, Claude Monet moved from Paris to Giverny with Alice, his second wife, and their children, including her children from a previous marriage. They initially rented a house. Seven years later, he purchased the house and transformed the empty land within. |

Inspired by Japanese postcards and gardens, Monet created a second garden in 1893. This garden includes a water lily pond and an arched bridge. During the last 30 years of his life, he created around 250 works on the theme of Water Lilies (Nympheas), many of which were sold in England and the US. |

Born in Paris, France in 1840, Monet was the second child in a merchant family. In his youth, he drew caricatures before becoming a student of the renowned painter Eugene Boudin. He was a pioneering artist and founder of French Impressionism. During his 86 years, Monet created 2,000 paintings, many of which were made in his garden. However, Monet's life was marked by sorrow. In 1912, he developed cataracts but continued to paint. He died in 1926 from lung cancer.
