Hailing from Nha Trang, the 1.8 m tall actor previously worked with the Buoc Nhay dance troupe in Ho Chi Minh City. Before "Mua do," Do Nhat Hoang played a small role in the film "Mai," directed by Tran Thanh. He portrayed the former lover of the female lead (played by Phuong Anh Dao), appearing for about 10 seconds. The actor said that during filming, Tran Thanh gave him much advice on handling the character's psychology, adjusting the rhythm of dialogue, and expressing emotions. The director's dedication helped Hoang gain confidence and continue to hone his acting skills. After "Mai," he gained attention with the role of Phuc in the film "Ngay xua co mot chuyen tinh."

In "Mua do," Hoang initially auditioned for the role of Quang's subordinate but was then suggested by the director to switch to the main antagonist role, which eventually led to the role of Cuong. The character is a music student, generous, and skilled in martial arts. He gives up the opportunity to study abroad to join the army, representing the students who "put down their pens to take up arms."
After receiving the script, Hoang diligently practiced the Hanoi accent and adjusted his dialogue rhythm, especially in the opening scene where the character bids farewell to his mother at the train station. He also researched the Quang Tri Citadel, talked to war veterans and elders in his family to understand the wartime context. The most challenging aspect for him was grasping the concept of life and death, something difficult for a young person who grew up in peacetime to imagine. Stories from veterans about how "waking up and finding themselves still breathing was happiness" helped him connect emotionally with the character.
On set, the scene of crossing the Thach Han River was a test of both physical and mental strength. The actors had to practice swimming with special forces, filming multiple takes to achieve the director's vision. "Because the current was so strong, there were days when we swam a few meters but it took five minutes. The feeling of exhaustion and helplessness helped me understand the hardships that the soldiers endured," he said.

During his transition from dancer to actor, Hoang persistently auditioned and honed his skills to pursue his dream. The support of the crew and his family motivated him to further embrace his profession. He considers the role of Cuong a career milestone. "Each character in Squad 1 has their own aspirations, but when the country calls, they are willing to put everything aside for a greater ideal. I hope viewers can feel that spirit through the film," the actor shared.
On the evening of 15/9, "Mua do" – a film about the battle to defend the Quang Tri Citadel – surpassed 650 billion VND in revenue, according to Box Office Vietnam. The film attracted over 7 million viewers, setting an unprecedented box office record domestically.
