Gen Z braves rain for 'Em xinh say hi' concert

Despite afternoon downpours, thousands of fans in raincoats lined up for the "Em xinh say hi" concert.

Heavy rain started at 12 p.m. and then stopped. However, around 4 p.m., close to the show's start time, the downpour resumed. Fans used umbrellas or donned free raincoats provided by the organizers to enter the ticket check area.

Fans queued at Gate GA, the designated ticket check area for standing audience members.

Most of the attendees were Gen Z. Despite the unfavorable weather, fans of the "em xinh" (beautiful girls) maintained their youthful styles. Many teenage girls sported braids, ribbons, and cartoon-themed accessories.

Doan Thu, 34, a member of Lyhan's fan club, expressed her anticipation for the star's interactions and musical performances. "Having followed Lyhan for three months on the show, I believe she deserves the runner-up position," Thu said.

A group of friends took photos outside before entering the main stage area, located about 20 meters away.

Many people hurried inside as the rain intensified.

To expedite the ticket check, staff continuously announced that attendees over 18 needed to have their identification cards and ticket codes ready. Fans aged 14 to 17 were required to have a guardian sign a waiver.

Fans of Ly Ly, Lamoon, and Miu Le brought props to show their support.

Ly Ly, wearing a tiered chiffon dress, posed for a photo at the main entrance.

Hoang Trang, 32, eagerly awaited the performance of "Not My Fault" by Lyhan, My My, Liu Grace, and MaiQuinn.

Four female students waited in the rain for their guardians to complete the entry procedures.

Nha Uyen, 24, came to support Phuong Ly and looked forward to singing along to "Vo Tay."

Hoang Duc, 19, and Nhat Giang, 20, sheltered from the rain outside the gate. They took the opportunity to reapply makeup after getting wet.

Both are fans of Phuong My Chi, the show's winner. "I'm looking forward to 'Chi Bay' (the singer's nickname) giving her all on stage," Nhat Giang said.

Lan Anh, 32, attended the show with her close friend. She traveled from Buon Ma Thuot city to Ho Chi Minh City a few days prior. Lan Anh spent two weeks crocheting a sweater dress specifically for the concert.

"My work is quite stressful, so music is an effective way to de-stress. I'll stand up and groove with everyone, even if it pours," Lan Anh said.

The concert, scheduled to last four hours, began at 7 p.m. The 30 "em xinh" performed popular numbers from the show, along with new collaborations. The production team prepared 10 international-standard lifting platforms combined with multiple LED screens and lasers.

The "Em xinh say hi" show, which aired from the end of May, aimed to "discover the next generation of Vietnamese female idols." Contestants were divided into teams, competing directly through group performances. After 14 episodes, Phuong My Chi emerged as the winner, with Lyhan as the runner-up. The remaining members of the Best 5 (All-Around Group) included Bich Phuong, Orange, and Lamoon.

The program has been hailed as a highlight of the music scene this year. The contestants delivered explosive performances that trended on YouTube and generated significant discussion on social media platforms. Newcomers like Muoi, Lamoon, Anh Sang Aza, Lyhan, and Dao Tu A1J gained wider recognition. Established artists like Bich Phuong, Bao Anh, Tien Tien, and Miu Le showcased fresh images and rediscovered their passion after periods of absence.

The show was produced by the same team behind the successful "Anh trai say hi" program in mid-2024.
