According to HK01, on 24/9, Gigi Lai and her younger brother, Lai Ying, attended Lai Suen's funeral, offering condolences to her husband and children. The actress passed away on 28/8 at the age of 94.

Lai posted on her social media page, "Your smile and warmth will always remain in my heart. I will always remember you." Lai Suen was born in 1931. Her father, Lai Man-Wai, was known as the "Father of Hong Kong Cinema." He founded the first film company in Hong Kong, producing films and training actors. Many members of Lai Suen's family pursued careers in film, including Gigi Lai, her niece. The two were colleagues at TVB.
Lai Suen began her acting career in the late 1940s, appearing in hundreds of films and television shows. In the 1970s, she starred in productions like The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, The Legendary Fok, and Chan Chin.

From the 1980s onwards, Lai Suen appeared in numerous TVB series such as The Greed of Man, The Intrigue, File of Justice, The Knife and the Sabre, A Kindred Spirit, Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils (1997) (as Empress Dowager Xiao), The Duke of Mount Deer (1998) (as Madam Zheng), At the Threshold of an Era, Wars of In-Laws, and Forensic Heroes. Her last work was Only You (2011).

According to Zaobao, Lai Suen primarily played supporting roles, but her characters left a lasting impression on many fans. She portrayed both good and evil characters, from poverty to wealth.
In 2023, she received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Hong Kong Performing Artistes Guild. At the time, she was unable to attend the ceremony in person due to mobility issues and reliance on a wheelchair. She married her first love, Gao Hong, in 1951, and they had three children.
