Jaykii: 'I was afraid the audience would turn their back on me'

Singer Jaykii said his 7-year hiatus was due to feeling lost and losing his passion for music, fearing his audience would no longer appreciate him.

Jaykii returned to the music scene, launching his debut album *Tan Tuong Tu* in Ho Chi Minh City on 25/9. He performed newly composed songs like *Chuyen Hai Chung Ta*, *Manh Me Ai Xem*, and his hit *Chieu Hom Ay*.

Many colleagues, including singer Hoang Ton, Sara Luu, and musician Duong Khac Linh, gave him rounds of applause. "I like Jaykii's new compositions and sense his emotional maturity," Duong Khac Linh said.

Jaykii expressed happiness at still being loved since his single *Nao Dau Phai Anh* in 2018. During his time away from the spotlight, reflecting on himself, he learned many life lessons, especially about choosing his career path.

"Years ago, every time I listened to music, I got a headache and felt numb. This went on for a while, so I gradually lost my direction. However, after all that, I realized music is always my passion, something I want to pursue to the end," Jaykii said.

During a vacation in Da Lat last year, the singer overheard a fan sharing that his music was the soundtrack of their youth, a companion during their heartbreak. This made Jaykii realize he had unintentionally created a large gap between himself and those who still loved and awaited his music.

Besides his fans, his wife, Mai Anh, also encouraged and invested in his work. According to Jaykii, his wife takes care of his every need, from meals to sleep, joking that she's like his "second mother." When he faces difficulties at work, she helps lift his spirits. "I'm quiet and introverted, while Mai Anh is dynamic and optimistic. Thanks to her, I've changed and become ready to embrace everything, no longer as negative as before," the singer said.

The CD *Tan Tuong Tu* includes eight ballads: *Mua Dong Nam Ay*, *Chuyen Hai Ta*, *Ai Roi Cung Khac*, and *Manh Me Ai Xem*. The singer composed these songs while reflecting on past relationships, viewing them as beautiful memories. "In this comeback, I'm quite relaxed, not putting too much pressure on achieving specific results or having a hit song. I have precious things like the love of my family, colleagues, and audience, and that's enough," he said.

Jaykii, 32, whose real name is Tran Anh Quan, was a top 10 finalist in Vietnam Idol 2013. The singer is known by many young audiences for his songs *Chieu Hom Ay* (self-composed) and *Dung Nhu Thoi Quen* (by Duong Khac Linh). In 4/2018, he and Sara Luu won the runner-up prize in the *Giai Dieu Chung Doi* competition. He married hot girl Mai Anh in 2023 and has a 4-year-old son.
