Luong Thu Trang graduated from the Hanoi College of Arts and then worked at the Youth Theater. In her early years, she dedicated herself to the stage, often playing tragic heroines. At 28, she made her television debut and has since appeared in numerous prime-time dramas in a variety of roles.
Girls in the City (2018)
In her first television role, Luong Thu Trang played Cuc, a garment factory worker who leaves her child behind to make a living in the city. Cuc is kind, hardworking, and always puts the needs of her three roommates and colleagues first. Due to past emotional trauma, Cuc is withdrawn. However, after interacting with Duc (Manh Dung), a security guard at the factory, she gradually opens up and finds happiness.
Director Vu Truong Khoa revealed that the script was revised to make Cuc a single mother, mirroring Luong Thu Trang's real-life situation. Her personal experience allowed her to vividly portray the character's emotions. According to the actress, she was immediately drawn to Cuc's story.
Spring Stays (2020)
In director Nguyen Danh Dung's series, Luong Thu Trang played Hoa, a teacher in a mountainous region. During the first two days of filming, all her scenes involved crying. This made her worry about repeating the melancholic image of Cuc from Girls in the City. Director Danh Dung adjusted the character's emotions, but remained concerned she wouldn't capture Hoa's essence. By the third day, she successfully portrayed Hoa's more lighthearted moments, reassuring the director. The actress also cut her hair to fit the character's energetic personality.
Reverse of Sunshine (2020)
Like Hoa, the role of Minh in Reverse of Sunshine (directed by Vu Truong Khoa) helped Luong Thu Trang break away from her gentle image. Minh is a strong, assertive woman skilled in martial arts and herbal medicine. Her life is turned upside down when she uncovers complex family secrets related to her ancestry.
Luong Thu Trang dedicated significant time to analyzing Minh's complex psychology. She followed audience comments and wasn't afraid of criticism directed at Minh's perceived arrogance.
After the series, the actress felt she had grown stronger. The role of Minh earned her the Golden Kite Award for Best Actress in 2021.
The Mirror Mask (2021)
In this production directed by Bui Quoc Viet, Luong Thu Trang played Hoa, a crime novelist who immerses herself in investigating murders for inspiration. Her life takes a strange turn as she uncovers the truth behind her mother's death and the secrets of her father and stepmother.
The actress received the script 20 days after finishing Reverse of Sunshine. She proactively lost weight to achieve a slimmer, more agile physique. In addition to her diet, the demanding schedule, frequent night shoots, and action scenes contributed to her rapid weight loss of 7 kg in a few months.
Director Bui Quoc Viet praised the actress's talent and dedication to exploring ways to best embody her roles. According to Luong Thu Trang, Hoa's multifaceted personality intrigued her.
Heart Rescue Station (2024)
This production, directed by Vu Truong Khoa, marked Luong Thu Trang's first foray into playing a villain on television. She portrayed An Nhien, a psychologist involved in an affair with Nghia (Quang Su), the husband of Ngan Ha (Hong Diem). Nghia initially married Ha to avenge his father's bankruptcy, caused by her father. An Nhien also harbors a long-standing grudge against Ha, and she and Nghia collaborate on their shared goal.
The actress revealed she had to create diagrams to analyze An Nhien's psychology. Most of her scenes were emotionally charged. "I was always glaring, yelling, cursing, and crying," she said.
Her portrayal of the manipulative character drew intense criticism from viewers, who labeled her the "other woman," leading her to temporarily deactivate her social media accounts. In an online discussion, she asked the audience for a more objective perspective.
Gentle Hues of Sunshine (2025)
In this recent series aired in June, directed by Bui Quoc Viet, she plays Lan Anh, the manager of a spa and beauty clinic. She is married to Bac (Duy Hung), a confectionery factory worker. Due to financial pressures, Lan Anh has an affair with a younger man. When Bac discovers the infidelity, their marriage falls apart, forcing her to relocate and find new work.
Luong Thu Trang admitted she hesitated to accept the role, fearing she hadn't fully shed An Nhien's persona. During the initial days of filming, she asked her assistant to record her performance on the monitor to help her soften the sharp gaze she had developed for the previous character.
