LyHan: the “dancing machine” of “Em xinh say hi”

Gen Z singer LyHan has captivated audiences with her impressive dance skills in several million-view performances on the show "Em xinh say hi."

LyHan and her team deliver an explosive performance of "Run."

On the episode aired on 26/7, LyHan rose from sixth place to first after the third live stage, securing a spot as team captain for the next challenge round. She expressed surprise at the result, admitting she hadn't expected to advance so far in the competition. "The love and support from the audience is a source of pride for me," she said.

LyHan, whose real name is Tran Thao Linh, is 26 years old and hails from Thanh Hoa. In 2018, she participated in the television program "The Debut" but did not achieve success. Later, LyHan gained recognition through collaborations with Hoang Ton on the song "Tinh yeu ngu yen" and with Osad in the music video "Yeu sac yeu."

LyHan is primarily active on social media, boasting nearly two million followers on her TikTok account. Entering "Em xinh say hi," she was considered a promising contestant due to her diverse skillset in singing, rapping, and dancing.

Throughout the nine aired episodes, LyHan has showcased her dancing prowess in various performances, including "Run," which topped YouTube’s trending music chart. During rehearsals, team captain Chau Bui described LyHan as the "backbone of the team" due to her enthusiastic spirit and positive energy.

The singer demonstrated powerful, decisive moves combined with a captivatingly aloof expression. Both audience members and fellow contestants have dubbed LyHan the show's "dancing machine," acknowledging her ability to electrify the stage with each performance.

Initially, MC Tran Thanh perceived LyHan as humble and reserved. However, after the breakthrough round, his opinion shifted. "I think LyHan is a unique individual. You're not here to win, but to do what you love. LyHan represents the type of person who acts more than they speak," Tran Thanh commented.

Fellow team member, Miu Le, observed: "LyHan is incredibly talented: a good singer, a skilled rapper, a beautiful dancer, and a quiet individual. She has the qualities to go far."

LyHan revealed that she began dancing at 14, and it has become second nature to her. As soon as music plays, she finds herself moving instinctively. LyHan honed her skills through YouTube tutorials and workshops led by Vietnamese choreographers. She recalled an incident where a leg injury requiring a cast couldn't stop her from practicing with her upper body.

The singer has also demonstrated her versatility in music. In the second live stage, as a member of Bich Phuong's team, LyHan ventured into the ballad genre with "Em chi la" – one of the show's most popular songs, garnering nearly eight million views.

Tang Duy Tan (center) expressed his positive experience working with LyHan on the performance. He described her as someone with "a soulful voice that gives you goosebumps."

LyHan acknowledges the challenges she's faced in her musical journey. She recalled watching other performers from the sidelines, longing for the day she could join them. She confessed to experiencing sleepless nights due to nervousness before her first performance on "Em xinh say hi."

LyHan aspires to be a distinctive performer, not just a dancer. "I want to create performances that bear my personal mark – where people don't just watch but also feel and connect," she stated.

In episode 8, LyHan competed in a dance battle, earning praise from the judges for her stage presence.

Beyond her talent, LyHan stands out with her bold personality amidst a group of contestants who generally embrace a more feminine and gentle style.

She favors street style and hip-hop fashion, often seen in wide-leg jeans, jackets, and accessories like chains and leather belts.

"Em xinh say hi," which aims to "discover the next generation of female idols in Vietnamese music," premiered in late May and is scheduled to conclude in August with 14 episodes. The contestants are divided into teams, competing directly through group performances. After nine episodes, 20 contestants remain in the competition.

Music director JustaTee (nickname Jessica Thanh Tu), along with a team of over 20 producers and musicians, are responsible for the original compositions performed by the contestants. The show is produced by the same team behind the successful "Anh trai say hi" program in mid-2024.
