The production team invited Doan Thien An to play the lead role, impressed by her natural acting style and ability to handle both comedic and dramatic scenes. The actress said that upon reading the script, she connected with the youthful romance and the losses the character experiences.
Doan Thien An, 25, from Long An, is 1.75 m tall and weighs 60 kg. She was Miss Ao Dai Vietnam before winning Miss Grand Vietnam in October 2022. After her victory, she competed in Miss Grand International in Indonesia, finishing in the top 20. She has continued to participate in various community projects, fashion shows, and the reality show Sao nhap ngu 2023. At the end of 2024, she made her film debut as Bay Loan, a beauty of the early 20th century, in "Cong tu Bac Lieu" (directed by Ly Minh Thang).

In "Love Letter to a Nun," producer Ly Minh Thang ("Me chong," "Cong tu Bac Lieu") recreates the atmosphere of 30 years ago, from costumes to everyday props. The blue sea and white sand scenery of central Vietnam regions like Dak Lak (formerly Phu Yen) and Khanh Hoa (formerly Ninh Thuan) serve as a romantic backdrop for the characters' unfinished love story.
The film also stars model Thanh Hang and actors Hua Vi Van, Thanh Son, Lam Vy Da, Huynh Phuong, Nguyen Thao, and Hua Minh Dat. After the launch, the crew will film in central Vietnam for a month to meet the April 2026 release date, coinciding with Easter.

Director Le Thien Vien - known for films like "Vu quy dai nao" and "Em la cua em" - has been developing the story for two years, drawing inspiration from the Catholic community in his hometown. He clarified that the film is not about religion but uses the setting to portray a microcosm of society. "There, people live sincerely despite facing challenges. It's a story about faith, love, and the anxieties of youth," he said.
