Saigon international guitar festival 2025 kicks off

The Saigon international guitar festival 2025, featuring renowned guitarists from Vietnam and abroad, will take place at the Institute of Cultural Exchange with France (Idecaf) from 14/8 to 17/8.

The program includes three concerts, an Asia-wide classical guitar competition, and a series of workshops with international artists.

The first concert on 15/8 features Xuanxuan Sun (China) and Mauricio Diaz Alvarez (Mexico). Both have performed at numerous prestigious international festivals and have won international awards. Mauricio Diaz Alvarez's performances will commemorate the 50th anniversary of Vietnam-Mexico diplomatic relations (1975-2025).

The concert on 16/8 features renowned European artists such as Michal Nagy, head of the Guitar & Harp Department at the Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music (Poland), and Jeremy Jouve (France), winner of the Guitar Foundation of America (GFA) competition.

The closing event on 17/8 will feature a performance by the young quartet 4.13 Guitar Quartet (Indonesia), winners of several awards at ensemble competitions in Asia.

The classical guitar competition within the festival framework is organized into five categories: Open Category, Junior Category (under 18 years old), Ensemble Category, Local Category, and Local U13 Category (under 13 years old).

The jury comprises international and Vietnamese artists, including Michal Nagy, Jeremy Jouve, Mauricio Diaz Alvarez, Xuanxuan Sun, 4.13 Quartet, and An Tran.

In addition to the concerts and competition, the organizers will hold a workshop exploring the works of two contemporary French composers, Mathias Duplessy and Jeremy Jouve (15/8), and an introduction to handcrafted guitars (16/8).
