The K-pop icon appeared at The K-Showtime on 30/8, an event featuring prominent K-pop artists including U-KNOW (TVXQ!), Key (SHINee), and Irene and Seulgi (Red Velvet).
As Taeyeon took the stage, the audience erupted in cheers, chanting her name. Her fans dominated the crowd compared to other artists, creating an electric atmosphere.
SNSD's former lead vocalist performed career-defining hits like "To.X" and "Disaster." Despite performing solo without backup dancers, she commanded the stage with her powerful presence. During her performance of "Letter to Myself," she hit high notes, showcasing her vocal prowess that has remained consistent throughout her career.
Taeyeon expressed her joy at reuniting with Vietnamese fans after so long. "I'm so glad it didn't rain today so we could enjoy ourselves together. Thank you for welcoming me as warmly as you did years ago," she said, striking poses and making adorable expressions amid the roaring applause.
Fans chanted "concert," hoping for Taeyeon to hold a solo concert in Vietnam soon. She responded, "I really look forward to that day." However, an incident during Taeyeon's stage appearance left fans upset. While interacting with the audience after performing "Four Season," the music for the next performer began playing. Taeyeon, visibly surprised, quickly exited the stage. The audience continued chanting her name, hoping for her return.
The organizers of The K-Showtime in Vietnam apologized to the artist and SONES (SNSD's fandom). According to them, a miscommunication between the staff led to the incident.
Many attendees had purchased tickets hoping to see the artist who had been a part of their youth. Minh Kien, 30, from Ho Chi Minh City, said, "I've been waiting for this day since Taeyeon's last visit to Vietnam eight years ago. My friends and I sang along to all her songs. It's a shame her performance was short and marred by the incident. It left us feeling a bit disappointed."
Taeyeon, 36, was born in Jeonju. Her family recognized and nurtured her singing talent from a young age. At 13, her parents took her to Seoul weekly for vocal training. In 2007, she debuted as the leader of SNSD. Experts consider her a powerhouse vocalist and a role model for idol singers in South Korea.
After SNSD disbanded, Taeyeon pursued a successful solo career, releasing albums like "My Voice" and "This Christmas: Winter is Coming." She has held numerous concerts across Asia, including in South Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, and Thailand.
The other Korean artists also delivered energetic performances of their hit songs. Key (SHINee) kicked off the show with dynamic renditions of "Hunter," "I Can't Sleep," and "Gasoline." Irene and Seulgi (Red Velvet) energized the audience with both joint and individual performances, taking fans back to Red Velvet's peak with songs like "Monster" and "Red Flavor."
U-KNOW (TVXQ!) performed "Mirotic" with polished choreography, captivating thousands of fans who sang along. He said, "It's been about 13 years since I last came to Vietnam. I've released many albums and shared the stage for DBSK's 20th-anniversary celebration. I'm always grateful to have you by my side through every stage of my career."
Quang Hung MasterD was the only Vietnamese guest performer at the show. He performed his hits including "I'm So Crazy," "Tinh dau qua chen," "Catch Me If You Can," "Tha anh ra," and "Thuy trieu."
The three-hour show drew nearly 10,000 attendees. Rain before the show had caused concern for the organizers. Fortunately, the weather cleared up just before the event, allowing the artists to perform comfortably and interact with the audience. Photo booths were set up outside the venue for fans to capture memorable moments.
