According to Reuters, the couple implemented tight security measures for the three-day wedding celebration (from 26/6 to 28/6) to protect their 200 to 250 guests from potential protesters. The series of events is estimated to cost around 55 million USD.
The couple was expected to exchange vows on the island of San Giorgio on 27/6. According to a senior official at City Hall, this ceremony would not be legally binding under Italian law. Reports suggest the billionaire and the TV anchor might hold a legal marriage ceremony in the US to avoid administrative complexities associated with marrying in Italy.
