Vietnamese designer debuts daring office wear at New York fashion week

Designer Vy Nguyen premiered her bold Continuum collection at New York fashion week.

The Continuum collection, which debuted on 12/9, blends elegance and daring, offering a fresh perspective on office attire. The event was part of New York fashion week Spring/Summer 2026, held from 11/9 to 16/9.

Nguyen incorporates plunging necklines, open backs, and cut-outs, a trend that has gained global popularity in recent years. She also embraces the visible lingerie look with sheer fabrics and small bra tops.

Asymmetry, another current trend, features prominently in blouses and A-line midi dresses. Drawstrings on oversized long sleeves add a touch of casualness.

While crop tops paired with midi skirts are typically considered more appropriate for parties than work, Nguyen believes the open and creative work environments of the younger generation can accommodate this style.

Traditional office staples like gilet vests and pleated skirts are reimagined with deep cuts at the chest and hips, transforming them into bodysuits and ultra-short, low-rise skirts.

The collection's color palette focuses on classic black and white, using materials like lace, chiffon, and silk.

In addition to everyday wear, the show also presented minimalist evening attire with sharp tailoring.

25-year-old Vy Nguyen was born in Hanoi. In 2023, she graduated with a degree in fashion design from the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), a renowned design and art school in the US. Before her debut show, she interned at established fashion houses such as Dion Lee, Grace Ling, and Yeon Studio. In addition to being the creative director for her own brand, she works at a sportswear company in New York.
