Kidney cancer is incurable
According to Health shots, the notion that kidney cancer is incurable is a common misconception. The disease can be cured if detected in its early stages and treated promptly with modern methods. When the disease has progressed to late stages or metastasized, the treatment goal shifts to tumor control and extending lifespan.
No symptoms means no kidney disease
In early to moderate stages, even when kidney function has significantly declined, patients often exhibit no clear symptoms. When signs such as fatigue, loss of appetite, edema, or nocturia (frequent nighttime urination) appear, the disease has typically advanced to a late stage.
Drinking more water is always better for kidneys
While adequate water intake protects the kidneys, consuming too much can be counterproductive and negatively impact this organ. When consuming about two liters of fluid daily, the kidneys are optimally conditioned to filter blood and eliminate toxins effectively. This process helps dilute mineral concentrations in urine, contributing to the prevention of kidney stones and reducing the risk of urinary tract infections.

Herbal remedies can cure kidney disease
Herbal remedies cannot completely cure severe kidney diseases such as chronic kidney failure or nephrotic syndrome. However, some traditional Vietnamese medicinal plants can support diuresis (increased urine production) and detoxification, potentially improving kidney function in mild stages.
Only the elderly are at risk of kidney disease
According to Hindustan Times, the belief that kidney disease only affects older adults is incorrect. The disease can occur at various ages, from children to adults. Factors such as diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, smoking, a family history of kidney disease, or prolonged abuse of painkillers all increase the risk of developing the condition.
Dialysis is mandatory for kidney disease treatment
Dialysis is not a mandatory treatment for all stages of kidney disease. It is a replacement therapy typically applied to patients with severe acute kidney failure or end-stage chronic kidney disease when the kidneys have lost nearly all their function.
Patients with early-stage kidney disease primarily receive treatment aimed at controlling the underlying causes and slowing disease progression. Doctors may prescribe blood pressure medications and other appropriate drugs depending on the specific condition. Patients also need to limit salty foods, adjust protein intake, and restrict foods rich in potassium and phosphorus, such as bananas and processed foods.
Kidney disease cannot be prevented
Many cases of kidney disease can be prevented or their progression slowed by maintaining a healthy lifestyle and controlling risk factors. Key measures include managing blood pressure, blood sugar, adequate hydration, limiting salt, avoiding smoking, and maintaining a healthy weight.
