At the same time, Viet Duc Friendship Hospital received seven patients. The most severe case, a 29-year-old, was admitted with bilateral lung contusion, hemopneumothorax, multiple rib fractures, and a spinal fracture. Doctors performed emergency surgery overnight to treat the injuries. The patient requires ventilator support, intensive care, and close monitoring. The remaining individuals sustained maxillofacial, shoulder, abdominal, and limb injuries, which on-call teams assessed and promptly treated.
Before being transferred to Hanoi, the group of victims (aged 22 to 44, including eight from Hanoi and one from Ho Chi Minh City) received first aid at Tram Tau Medical Center.
The accident occurred on the morning of 27/12 in Phinh Ho commune, Lao Cai, when a 29-seat vehicle carrying a charity group of 18 people overturned at a sharp bend. The incident resulted in nine fatalities at the scene; the vehicle was heavily damaged, with debris scattered across the area. Authorities believe the initial cause may have been brake failure while descending a slope.
