Even when her child was three years old, Ms. Thao could not lose weight and suffered from menstrual irregularities. After trying various unsuccessful weight loss methods, she sought obesity treatment at Tam Anh General Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City. Dr. Tran Huu Thanh Tung, from the Department of Endocrinology and Diabetes, noted that Ms. Thao weighed 75 kg, was classified as grade one obese with a BMI of 26, had visceral fat 1,8 times higher than the safe threshold, and low muscle mass. An ultrasound revealed grade two fatty liver and multiple small cysts in both ovaries, which were the cause of her menstrual irregularities.

Doctors prescribed oral and injectable medications to aid fat elimination, reduce hunger, and promote satiety. Ms. Thao also needed to maintain a nutritious diet, increase lean protein intake, and exercise to build muscle mass and burn fat.
She followed the doctors' instructions diligently, taking her medication on time, eating a diverse diet with plenty of green vegetables and fruits, and engaging in regular physical activity. After over two months, she lost 10 kg without experiencing the fatigue or exhaustion she had before. Her menstrual cycle returned to normal, and her fatty liver condition improved.
Despite successful weight loss, Ms. Thao's cheeks appeared slightly saggy, her double chin area lacked definition, and her face was not as contoured as she desired. Master of Science in Medicine, Dr. Vu Thi Thuy Trang, from the Department of Dermatology and Skin Aesthetics, explained that weight loss primarily reduces overall body fat, while localized fat deposits like a double chin and lower cheeks are often difficult to improve. Ms. Thao was advised to undergo HIFU (high-intensity focused ultrasound) technology. This treatment uses high-intensity focused ultrasound waves, selectively targeting different skin layers at various depths. This multi-layered technology helps reduce localized fat and stimulates collagen and elastin regeneration, thereby improving skin firmness.

Dr. Trang noted that to optimize and maintain the results, patients must focus on proper skincare after HIFU treatment. For the first few days, the skin may feel slightly tight or appear mildly red. It is crucial to moisturize adequately, use broad-spectrum sunscreen daily, limit sun exposure during intense heat, and avoid invasive procedures initially. Following the treatment, Ms. Thao's chin area became more defined, her jawline clearer, and her skin gradually firmer and brighter.
