Traditional medicine practitioner Do Minh Tuan, from the Vietnam Traditional Medicine Association, states that bone broth is a nutritious dish often found in family meals. When bones are simmered for an extended period, the broth can contain some protein, gelatin, and dissolved minerals from the bones. Drinking a warm bowl of broth on a cold day often makes the body feel more comfortable and is beneficial for those with poor appetite or recovering from illness.
Many people habitually simmer marrow bones and ribs to drink, believing that "eating bones helps bones" or "drinking bone broth strengthens weak joints". However, bone and joint health depends on many factors beyond just food.
"For long-term strong bones and tendons, care for your body holistically, rather than focusing on one specific dish", the practitioner advises.

To maintain a healthy musculoskeletal system, the body also requires a balanced diet, supplemented with foods rich in calcium and vitamin D, and protein from sources like meat, fish, shrimp, crab, mushrooms, seaweed, and various nuts such as walnuts, macadamia nuts, and almonds.
Furthermore, individuals with bone and joint issues should consume foods rich in omega-3, including salmon, mackerel, herring, and sardines. Eating a diverse range of rainbow-colored vegetables, tubers, and fruits is also highly beneficial for the body.
People need to exercise regularly, suited to their health, without overexerting themselves. Maintaining adequate sleep, limiting prolonged late nights, and keeping a healthy weight are crucial to reduce pressure on joints.
