Around 5:40 PM on 25/4, as Dr. Le Quang Huy, a physician from the Neurosurgery Department at Da Nang Hospital, was preparing for his shift, he heard shouts for help from the pickleball court opposite his home.
Upon arriving at the scene, Dr. Huy observed a man, over 50 years old, who was unconscious, cyanotic, frothing at the mouth, with a weak pulse and rapid, shallow breathing. Recognizing the signs of cardiac arrest, he immediately cleared the man's airway and began cardiopulmonary resuscitation (cpr) through external chest compressions.
After more than five minutes of continuous chest compressions, the patient's heart rhythm returned, his pulse became stronger, and he gradually regained consciousness. Emergency services, 115, arrived shortly after to transport the patient to the hospital for further treatment.
By 26/4, the patient's condition had stabilized, and he was discharged from the hospital.
Dr. Le Duc Nhan, Director of Da Nang Hospital, highlighted this incident as a prime example of the critical role of initial first aid. He emphasized, "In cardiac arrest emergencies, every minute is crucial. If the patient receives proper cpr at the scene, the chances of survival increase significantly."
Hospital leadership stated that they regularly train medical staff in these skills and strive to disseminate essential first aid skills to the community to respond to similar emergencies.
