FPT partners with G2E Korea to develop diabetes management technology

FPT Group and G2E Korea signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on 20/8 for marketing and business cooperation, covering everything from blood glucose monitoring to insulin management and usage.

FPT is developing continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) devices, while G2E is advancing insulin management technology. The two companies aim to combine these technologies to expand diabetes management solutions in Vietnam.

Recent statistics show that Vietnam has approximately 7 million people with diabetes, with more than half already experiencing complications upon diagnosis. The International Diabetes Federation (IDF) estimates diabetes-related healthcare costs in Vietnam for 2024 to be around 1.07 billion USD. As the number of patients and the need for long-term management grow, technology plays an increasingly important role in diabetes care. Globally, the technological ecosystem has expanded beyond finger-prick blood glucose meters to include continuous glucose monitors, smart insulin pens, insulin pumps, and automated treatment systems. The American Diabetes Association (ADA) categorizes CGM, insulin pumps, smart insulin pens, and automated insulin delivery (AID) systems as crucial technologies in disease management.

Continuous glucose monitors are transforming how patients track their blood sugar. Instead of only providing snapshot readings, these devices offer continuous data, allowing users and healthcare professionals to observe blood sugar trends 24/7. This data helps in adjusting diet, exercise, and treatment plans.

Smart insulin pens record insulin doses and usage times, connecting with applications to provide information that assists patients and doctors in managing insulin use effectively. Furthermore, diabetes technology is evolving from standalone devices to integrated systems that connect continuous glucose monitors, smart pens, insulin pumps, and data analytics platforms.

Under the memorandum of understanding, FPT and G2E Korea will share information on diabetes care needs and trends, coordinate marketing and promotional activities, and connect with partners in Vietnam. The two parties also plan to implement a Joint Development Program, combining G2E's smart insulin pen solutions with FPT's continuous glucose monitor products, such as FPT's 3P device. They will also collaborate on training, usage guidance, and support for healthcare professionals and patients participating in the program.

Yoon Yong Kwang, Chief Sales Officer (CSO) at G2E Korea, stated at the signing ceremony: "Through joint marketing and support for common development programs, we expect to better understand the needs of patients and healthcare professionals in Vietnam." He added that G2E would introduce advanced Korean solutions in insulin management and delivery, gradually applying them effectively to meet the needs of patients and the Vietnamese healthcare system.

Phan Minh Hai, Director of FPT Medicare, FPT Group, shared that this cooperation with G2E allows FPT Group to leverage each party's strengths in technology and diabetes care. "Combining CGM products like FPT's 3P device with G2E's smart insulin management solution forms the basis for both parties to develop solutions and devices that will help diabetic patients manage and treat their condition more effectively, improving their quality of life," said Phan Minh Hai.

G2E, established in 2000 in South Korea, operates in medical devices, digital healthcare, and health information technology, specializing in diabetes management and insulin therapy. One of G2E's prominent solutions is DIA:CONN, a diabetes management platform that connects blood glucose monitoring devices, insulin pumps, the P8 smart insulin pen, a patient application, and a platform for healthcare professionals, enabling patients to track and manage their insulin use conveniently.

FPT's 3P continuous glucose monitor is a system that supports convenient glucose and health index tracking for diabetic patients. The device automatically updates blood sugar data every three minutes to the FPT MediCare application, helping users understand blood sugar fluctuations without frequent finger pricking. The data also connects to remote management and consultation systems, allowing doctors and nurses to closely monitor patient conditions, provide advice, and support treatment based on real-time data, thus enhancing blood sugar control and preventing complications.

The cooperation between FPT and G2E focuses not only on introducing modern devices to the market but also on building integrated models connecting blood sugar data, insulin, patients, and healthcare professionals. By combining FPT Group's strengths in blood glucose monitoring solutions and G2E's insulin management solutions, the two parties expect to expand support options for diabetic patients in Vietnam.
