According to Verywell Health, reducing stress after a workday can stabilize mental well-being, improve sleep, and support physical health. Alongside limiting electronic device use, leaving work at the office, and maintaining a nutritious diet, you can adopt the following habits for mental well-being.
Physical activity
After work, instead of going home to watch movies or browse on your phone, you should dedicate time to physical activity to relax after a day's work. Physical activity stimulates the release of endorphins, natural mood enhancers, and helps reduce cortisol, a hormone linked to stress.
High-intensity workouts are not necessary. You could take a gentle walk for about 20 minutes, jog briskly for 10 to 15 minutes, practice yoga, tai chi, or simply stretch while listening to music. These activities help relax the body, relieve pressure, and improve mental state after work.

Connect with others
After work, it is beneficial to spend time connecting with family and friends rather than isolating yourself for extended periods. Feelings of loneliness can trigger the body's stress response, elevating cortisol levels and impacting both physical and mental health.
According to Eating Well, engaging in conversations, sharing enjoyable stories, or discussing daily matters, such as children's schooling or cooking delicious meals, can regulate emotions and improve mood. Activities like hugging, laughing, or brief chats also stimulate the body's release of feel-good substances such as oxytocin, thereby helping to reduce stress.
Relax the mind
Dedicating quiet time for relaxation allows the brain to rest and recover, supporting both mental and physical health. You might take a stroll in a park, write a journal, listen to music while bathing, join a dance class, or paint to regain energy and set aside work pressures. Mental relaxation also improves sleep, lessens anxiety and stress, and supports brain health.
It is advisable to limit the use of phones, computers, and social media after work. A balanced diet prioritizing nutrient-rich foods such as: salmon, fatty fish, avocado, vegetables, whole grains, various nuts, and olive oil also benefits brain health.
