Three methods for health insurance card renewal
According to Vietnam Social Security (VSS), individuals who self-pay for health insurance can renew their cards through one of three channels: the Public Service Portal, banking applications, or directly at VSS agencies or organizations that support participant development.
To use the Public Service Portal, participants should access either the National Public Service Portal or the Vietnam Social Security Public Service Portal. From there, select the service "Registration for payment, issuance of health insurance cards for individuals participating only in health insurance". After submitting the required information, the system will verify the data and calculate the payment amount.
Participants can complete the payment online, receiving an electronic receipt, a notification of the result, and their health insurance card via their chosen delivery method. This service is currently available as a fully online process.
Using banking applications: Participants can pay for health insurance renewal directly through the applications of major banks such as: Vietcombank, Agribank, VietinBank, or BIDV. Within the Social/Health Insurance payment section, users should follow the instructions, carefully reviewing their participant information, the renewal period, and the payment amount before confirming the transaction.
After completing the payment, it is advisable to save the receipt or transaction code for future reference and verification.
Through VSS agencies or participant support organizations: Individuals can visit the nearest VSS agency or a designated participant support organization for assistance and to make payments. Upon payment, it is crucial to obtain and retain a receipt, verifying the participant's information, the payment amount, and the payment period.
Vietnam Social Security states that the collecting entity is responsible for issuing receipts to participants and remitting the collected funds to the VSS agency as stipulated by regulations.

Verifying health insurance card renewal status
After payment, it is important to verify the card's validity and participation history through official channels. While banking applications primarily facilitate payment and renewal transactions, VssID and VNeID serve as convenient platforms for checking and utilizing card information.
VssID - Digital Social Security Application: Log in to your account and select the "Health Insurance Card" section to view card details, validity period, and entitled health insurance benefits. Users can also monitor their participation history.
Vietnam Social Security Electronic Information Portal: Access baohiemxahoi.gov.vn, then select "Online Lookup" followed by "Lookup Health Insurance Card Validity". After entering the requested information, the system will display the card's validity period, the initial registered healthcare facility, and the date when five consecutive years of participation are met.
VNeID Application: If your health insurance information has been integrated, navigate to "Document Wallet" and select "Health Insurance Card" to verify your details.
Vietnam Social Security Hotline: Call 1900 9068 or contact a VSS agency directly for assistance with lookup and verification if information has not been updated or appears inaccurate.
What to do if information is not updated?
Vietnam Social Security advises participants to check their card's validity before the old card expires and to re-verify it after completing the renewal transaction.
If the data has not been updated or does not match the submitted documentation, participants should retain their receipt, documentation, or transaction code. They should then contact the payment collection point or a VSS agency for verification and resolution. Prompt verification helps identify any issues in the health insurance payment recording process, minimizing the risk of a lapse in card validity and ensuring continuous healthcare benefits.
