This action follows the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) report on 13/6 of three infants in California, Pennsylvania, and Washington suffering from botulinum poisoning. The three patients, aged two to five months, had all consumed Nara Organics Whole Milk Organic Powdered Infant Formula, from batch codes 709125280E14F2, 709125288E14F2, and 708125174E14F2, for four to five months. They are currently receiving intensive treatment with specialized antitoxin, and no fatalities have been reported.
The recalled product was distributed through Target, Target.com, and Nara.com from 7/2025 to 6/2026. The FDA stated that the product was not distributed outside the U.S.
The Food Safety Authority reported that surveys on e-commerce platforms in Vietnam have not found this formula product, but it may be circulating via "hand-carried" imports. Therefore, to ensure safety, the Ministry of Health requested local authorities to review product declarations and instruct relevant entities to cease business and recall all products (if imported or circulated in the market).
Botulinum poisoning in infants under one year old is a rare but particularly dangerous condition because their intestinal microbiota is not yet fully developed, creating conditions for bacterial spores to develop and produce toxins in the intestines.
