Phap Van expressway bus crash victim suffers traumatic brain injury

Twenty-eight survivors of a sleeper bus crash on the Phap Van - Cau Gie expressway are receiving emergency treatment at various hospitals, including one with a traumatic brain injury.

Viet Duc Friendship Hospital admitted two severely injured victims early on 17/7. These two are among the most serious cases out of the 28 survivors currently receiving emergency care at leading hospitals.

Doctors identified an 18-year-old male from Bac Ninh with multiple complex injuries. The patient suffered a traumatic brain injury, maxillo-facial trauma, closed abdominal trauma, a grade I open fracture of the left lower leg, a closed femur fracture, and a fractured left pelvis. The medical team is providing intensive resuscitation in the emergency room, closely monitoring to fully assess the extent of injuries before determining specialized intervention.

Concurrently, a 54-year-old male from Thai Nguyen was admitted with an open fracture of the humerus and two bones of the left forearm. Following a general examination, a specialized board ordered immediate emergency surgery to treat the injuries, aiming to preserve limb function for the patient.

At other medical facilities, Thuong Tin General Hospital is treating 14 passengers with various injuries, primarily closed fractures and soft tissue abrasions. Some remaining victims are receiving care at Agriculture Hospital. In total, the accident claimed the lives of three people at the scene and one person who succumbed to injuries after being admitted to the hospital.

The incident occurred around 0:20 on 17/7 on the Phap Van - Cau Gie expressway, in Chuong Duong commune, Thuong Tin, Hanoi. A 45-seat bus with a Thai Nguyen license plate, driven by a 43-year-old, was traveling from Ninh Binh to Hanoi when it suddenly lost control. The bus veered off the expressway, falling approximately 2 meters onto a lower service road before overturning. The passengers involved were tourists returning from a vacation at Thien Cam beach, Ha Tinh.

Authorities confirmed the driver tested negative for alcohol and drugs during the initial check. Police have sealed off the scene to investigate the detailed cause of the accident on this vital southern gateway route to the capital.
