Pregnant woman gives birth on motorcycle upon arrival at hospital

A 25-year-old woman gave birth on a motorcycle, with the baby still attached to her clothes, as her husband rushed her to Phu Luong Hospital.

According to doctor Tran Thi Lan Phuong, deputy head of the surgery and obstetrics department at Phu Luong Hospital, the woman experienced abdominal pain at 6 am on august 3. Without time to prepare, the couple immediately rode a motorcycle to the hospital. Medical staff, upon meeting the woman as she dismounted, discovered the baby had already been born and was still attached to her clothes.

The medical team quickly assisted the mother and baby. She was instructed to dismount the motorcycle and remain standing to avoid putting pressure on the baby. Simultaneously, doctors caught the baby boy, kept him warm, cut the umbilical cord, and took both mother and baby to the delivery room for necessary care.

This was the woman's 4th pregnancy, and she delivered prematurely at 32 weeks, around the 8th month of gestation. She had previously received treatment for threatened miscarriage at the department. The baby boy weighed 2 kg, his health was stable, and he received a hepatitis B vaccine after birth. Currently, both mother and baby are healthy.

Doctor Phuong advises pregnant women nearing their due date to watch for unusual signs such as: abdominal pain or discharge (amniotic fluid or blood) and to go to the hospital immediately for examination. Regular prenatal check-ups as prescribed by doctors or seeking medical advice via phone are also important. Phu Luong Hospital has handled unexpected births like this before.
