Speaking at a recent men's health workshop, Associate Professor, Doctor Truong Hoang Minh, Head of Urology, Kidney Transplant, and Men's Health Department at Nhan Dan 115 Hospital, shared that more than 5 years since the surgery (from 2019), the patient's health has stabilized, sexual function has recovered, and he has built a new family.
Previously, the man was run over by a truck, resulting in a fractured pelvis and a severed urethra. Despite undergoing multiple reconstructive surgeries to save his life and preserve urinary function, he suffered from complete erectile dysfunction. This complication became a significant psychological barrier, leading to the dissolution of his first marriage.
Beyond this specific case, artificial penile implant surgery has transformed the lives of many other patients. A 42-year-old man in Tay Ninh, who had divorced due to severe erectile dysfunction, confidently remarried after the procedure. An American man, 76 years old, even chose to travel to Vietnam for this surgery, trusting the expertise of local doctors and finding the treatment costs more reasonable compared to his home country.

According to Doctor Minh, erectile dysfunction significantly impacts quality of life and marital happiness. In Vietnam, approximately 15.7% of men suffer from this condition, with nearly 10% experiencing severe forms. Before 2019, patients with severe erectile dysfunction had virtually no definitive treatment solutions.
Artificial penile implant surgery is considered the last resort for these cases. This technique has been adopted in global medicine since 1973. The implanted device consists of three parts: two corporal cylinders placed within the penis, a fluid reservoir positioned near the bladder, and a control pump hidden in the scrotum. The entire system is discreetly located inside the body, ensuring aesthetics and privacy; only the patient knows the location of the button to activate it when needed.
Each surgery takes about 40 minutes. Patients can be discharged after one to two days and resume sexual activity after one month. According to medical literature, the device has a lifespan of about 20 years, with satisfaction rates from both patients and partners exceeding 91%.
Experts advise men experiencing sexual health issues not to feel ashamed or delay seeking help. Early consultation at specialized facilities allows patients to access appropriate treatment methods, preventing prolonged conditions that can lead to depression, marital breakdown, and a diminished quality of life.
